TCHCC TO OPEN “250 YEARS OF CZECH AMERICAN LEGACY” EXHIBIT DURING SLAVNOST MAYFEST
The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center will officially unveil its new “250 Years of Czech American Legacy” exhibit during this Sunday’s annual Slavnost Mayfest celebration in La Grange. The featured museum exhibit highlights the shared history of the Czech lands, the founding of America, and the development of Texas while honoring the lasting contributions of Czech Americans across generations.
Visitors will journey through an immersive historical timeline exploring the origins of the Czech people, the emergence of the newly formed United States, and the settlement and growth of Texas. The exhibit showcases how early Czech immigrants traveled to Texas, where they settled throughout Fayette County and across the state, and how they preserved their traditions, faith, language, music, and work ethic while building new lives in America.
Special sections of the exhibit honor Czech Americans who served in the United States military, recognizing generations of service and sacrifice. Guests will also experience displays depicting early immigrant life, including agriculture, trades, family life, and community traditions that helped shape Texas Czech culture into what it is today.
The grand opening of the exhibit coincides with the 25th Annual Slavnost Mayfest celebration taking place this Sunday at TCHCC. The family-friendly event will feature dignitaries from the Czech Republic, live music by Pardubická Muzika Orchestra and the Vintage Drafts Band, traditional Czech food, kolaches, and a catered meal.
Guests can also explore the Czech Village featuring live demonstrations including blacksmithing, newspaper printing, and sawmill operations. The Polka Lovers Club Museum will be open throughout the day, and visitors may stop by the museum lobby to enjoy authentic Czech pastries and specialties from Pavlova Catering and Bakery with Chef Pavlova.
Festivities begin Sunday at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, located at 250 W. Fairgrounds Road in La Grange. The public is invited to spend the day celebrating Czech heritage, history, music, and culture during one of the region’s signature cultural events.
